Incorporating all that we’ve learned in 21 years of working with carbon fiber, the 101 is the first aluminum wheelset to utilize Zipp’s cutting-edge aero technologies. Featuring the world’s only fully toroidal aluminum rim in a 7000-series high-strength alloy, the 101 actually has more in common with Zipp’s carbon wheels than it does with any other aluminum wheel that’s ever been made.
Like our carbon wheels, the 101 is a product of Zipp’s rigorous wind tunnel development process. Like our carbon wheels, it outperforms even deeper-section models from the competition. Like our carbon wheels, the 101 is handbuilt at our facility in Speedway, Indiana.
Designed for racing and everyday training, the 101 balances weight, reliability and aerodynamics. Its 30mm profile is deep enough to take advantage of Zipp’s exclusive toroidal shaping while holding the 101’s weight to just 1484 grams. The result is a wheelset that weighs the same as the industry’s aluminum benchmark but saves up to 42 seconds over 40km.
A 24.5mm rim width maintains the 101’s aerodynamics even with 25mm tires. But the 101 can also be used safely with tires as narrow as 21mm – unlike other clincher rims of similar widths – because the rounded toroidal shape is narrower at the hook bead than in the middle. The 101’s wide stance also resists pinch flatting, improves lateral stiffness, and provides a stable platform for precise handling on rough surfaces.
